What is an RSS Feed?

The most basic explanation of an RSS feed is that it is an easy way to know when your favorite website has been updated, without having to actually visit it every few minutes to check. Most blogs contain an RSS feed. The News area of our website contains a RSS feed.

How do I use it?

You will need a reader of some sort to use RSS feeds. There are different types, and many to choose from within each type. For an extensive list, see News Aggregators. You might also want to check out Alternative Browser Alliance (not all of the browsers listed have preinstalled RSS readers, but it is indicated in the description). Once you choose a reader, follow the directions to subscribe to RSS feeds that interest you. Most will come with some of the more popular feeds pre-installed, which you can either keep (if they interest you) or remove to make more room for what you really want to read about. It may seem complicated at first, but once you try it out, it's really quite simple and fun.
